Ok, It is time to blow the lid off of the musical workings of the Spiffster. I know you probably don't care, but I was intrigued. I pulled up the media player, imported the entire directory and hit random. Now, this is just the music I have purposely installed on the computer at work. The stuff I felt like listening to at one time so I put it on here. Needless to say, there are some seldom heard goodies, one hit wonders, classics and currents on the old playlist. This is probably fairly indicative of my music as a whole, so you should get a better idea of who I pretend to be. . . . uhmm, I mean - who I am. Anyway. Here are the first 10 songs that played when I hit random out of 168 hours 35 minutes and 47 seconds of music (11.46 GB of my harddrive).
- The Pixies "Hey"
- Ray Charles "Hallelujah, I love her so"
- Frank Sinatra "Someone to watch over me"
- AC/DC "What do you do for money honey
- Avril Lavigne "Mobile"
- Johnny Cash "Redemption"
- Dazz Band "Let it Whip"
- Bad Religion "Against the grain"
- BB King "To know you is to love you"
- U2 "Staring at the Sun"
and I just have to include # 11 Violent Femmes "Add it up", because I love it so much. If I chose ten songs out of the weeks worth of music I have here, I really don't think I would have picked any of those songs. But then again, I can listen to more than 10 songs, so I don't have to pick the top 10 or anything. Whew!! I don't think I could do it. That's why I love the random.
That covered about 65% of the music styles I listen to on a regular basis. I typically listen to the XM radio for new music. I've gotten cheap in my old age I guess. Maybe it's that I spend 20$ a week in diapers instead of music. The hazards of getting older and having more responsibilities I suppose. It's a good thing I have a lot of music already.
The selection here on the computer is very limited. I have approximately 700 hours of music on the computer at home. Plus dozens of CD's that have never been put on the computer. Basically, I could listen to music 24 hours a day for over a month and not hear the same song. I think I have a problem. . . . I can think of 7 cd's I want to buy right off the top of my head. Is this normal? Is there a support group for this? How much music is enough?
Oh, I make the 2nd best playlists ever. . . . my wife makes the best. It irritates me that she is better at making mixes/playlists than me, but I enjoy the benefits to be sure.

I keep rearranging the songs on my playlists. Hmm... maybe I should burn some more CDs!
You'd be surprised and horrified if you'd check out my playlists...
I've heard exaclty two of the songs on your playlist, in case you're keeping score.
Hey Chicky, you can never have too much music. I have decided to embrace the insanity and actually just ordered 4 more CD's today. I am limiting myself (after today) to no more than 2 CD's a month. That is as a family.
Not really Heart, I didn't even touch the scope of the eclectic music selection I have. I listen to and like ALL types of music. I even listen to music in languages I don't speak. So, I would not be horrified. . . . unless all you listened to was bubble gum pop. Then yes, I'd be scared of you.
Which two songs, Julene. I'll bet you've heard the Sinatra, Avril Lavigne, AC/DC, U2, and Violent Femmes songs. . . . you just probably don't realize it. Oh, the Dazz Band I am sure you've heard too. You probably wouldn't recognize them if you heard them, other than it being a song you once heard. Branch out, give them a listen. All of them are good songs.
My playlists tend to make no sense whatsoever...so I'm a big fan of the random function too!

Welcome Claire, I would be lost without the random function. My stereo and computer both know me well, and they always treat me right when it comes to the music.
Crashie!! Great to have you back in the mix. I have definately got to broaden my reading scope a little. You always have the best and most elequent quotes to share.
It would probably much less embarrassing if you had left out the Avril :)
